Overview
Alan J. Tauber has over 30 years experience as a trial and appellate attorney in state and federal courts and recently led the Defender Association of Philadelphia as its first assistant and chief defender. He practices criminal defense and plaintiff's civil rights involving claims of wrongful conviction, excessive force by police and unlawful conditions of incarceration. In the past five years, Mr. Tauber's work has led to the release of three individuals serving life without parole sentences. He has also been counsel multiple seven figure civil rights settlements including the case of Chester Hollman, III whose story was featured in the Netflix series titled the “The Innocence Files, Chapter 7-Wrong Place; Wrong Time” which told his story of wrongful conviction in Philadelphia built upon coerced witness statements and hidden evidence. His case settled for a record pre-suit sum of $9.8 million.
A year earlier, Mr. Tauber was counsel in a malicious prosecution claim against Philadelphia police that ended in a $10 million jury verdict.
